Sorry if this sounds like some half witted problem that has been dealt with already, but I didn't see my exact situation in the other threads.
I was happily running NS7.1, but was told by my newly started Internet Banking site that I needed either 7.2 or IE to be sure things would work properly. So I downloaded 7.2, and proceeded to install it. I must have missed or not completely understood a warning during the process, but the end result is, my previous Messenger files, saved email, address book, etc seem to be missing, and I'm being prompted to set up a new Netscape account. Is there a way to clear up this mess Ive gotten into, and more importantly, can I salvage those email files from wherever they wandered off to? Thanks for any help you can offer.
In case it helps, I'm running WIN2000as my OS, and had Messenger set up to handle my incoming Earthlink mail.

    Welcome to the Forum, scooter06790!

    scooter06790,

Did you uninstall Netscape 7.1 before installing Netscape 7.2?

Did you also delete the 1.4f_2003062408 folder, which is located here:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\mozilla.org\GRE\1.4f_2003062408?

If no is the answer to one, or both the above questions, then therein lies your problem. This is what you can do to recover your Profile:

If you did install 7.1 over 7.2, then uninstall Netscape 7.2 first, even if Netscape 7.1 is in the Add/Remove Program List. This will uninstall both browsers. If not, then of course only 7.2 will be listed for the uninstall

    Next:
    Delete the 1.4f_2003062408 folder
Delete the Netscape folder located here:
    C:\Progrram Files\Netscape\Netscape
    - (assuming you have no other version of Netscape installed)

    Next: Reboot your PC

Now install Netscape 7.2, and your Profile should be intact.

    FYI:

The Profiles for Windows 2000 are located here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles

NOTE: These files are hidden by default.
    To see hidden files:
    1. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options
    2. Click the View tab
    3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders
    4. Disable "Hide File Extensions for Known Files. "
    5. Click OK.

    continuing search for my email

I did not uninstall 7.1 nor did I delete that file before I installed 7.2. Your directions seem to reverse the process I did,
"If you did install 7.1 over 7.2, then uninstall Netscape 7.2 first, even if Netscape 7.1 is in the Add/Remove Program List. This will uninstall both browsers. If not, then of course only 7.2 will be listed for the uninstall. "
I installed 7.2 over 7.1. Is that what you meant, or does the uninstall sequence change due to the installed sequence. Just want to be sure I'm doing this right.
again excuse the newbieishness of the question, but are my email folders, saved email, and address book still in here somewhere? How should I save my bookmarks during this uninstall process?
thanks for the help. Can't tell you how disturbed I was when I thought my email was lost.

    Scott,
Netscape and related programs are made up of three parts.
1.The program itself. It should always be uninstalled when going to another version, or the new version should be installed in a different folders.
2.The GRE folder. It should also be removed during the uninstall, but 7.1 may have a glitch, and it may require manual deletion.
3.Your Profile, with bookmarks, and mail stuff will not be touched by uninstalled process.
The fear of losing the personal info causes so many unnecessary problems .

So, at this point, delete, manuallly the 1.4 GRE. Then uninstall 7.2. If 7.1 is still listed, uninstall it too. Double check the GRE folder. You should have no folder therein. You may want to restart the computer.
Then, reinstall 7.2, and everything should be working fine. Please let us know, one way or other.
