I'm trying to find a solution for my adult son who's business email was on an XP system, 6.0, when he installed 7.1 over it and "lost" the mail. He's buried so I'm writing in his stead, having found Ramona and this great board. Could he uninstall 7.1 and reinstall 6.0 as a means of recovering readable mail? He sees it on the system somewhere but can't get Netscape pointed at it. Any ideas appreciated.
BTW, he did this install while attempting to migrate his address lists to a new system when the new system, with 7.1, showed import/export function. The old system is history except for the lost email. Larry

Hi Larry P, and welcome to the Forum!

    Larry,

If your son trying to recover the mail on the system with 7.1 installed over 6.0 then have him do this:

With the Mail & Newsgroups window open
In Edit | Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings | Server Settings
at the bottom of the Server Settings window, in the "Local directory" section
ensure that the "Local directory" path points to the correct location on the HDD for the mail account folder:
    <path>/Applications Data/Mozilla/users50/profilename/*.slt/Mail/mail.isp.net
    This should reassociate his Mail.

If he only wants to copy the Mail to the new system:
Copy the Mail folder from the old to the new system
Open the Mail folder from the old system and copy the old mail files (Inbox, Sent, etc., without the msf extension) to the new system mail account folder.

Copy all SBD folders from the old system to the new system Mail folder (These are the subfolders)
Delete files in the subfolders with .msf extensions

Caution: these files will replace any existing files in the new system Mail folder. You may first want to rename the Mail files, e.g., rename Inbox to OldInbox, etc. The renamed files will appear in the Netscape Mail. This will ensure that you lose no existing mail. You can drag the messages in the renamed Inbox, etc., to the appropriate folders, once you are certain all your Mail is secure.

    Ramona :)
