I have lost my CD Rom. It shows up in the BIOS when booting but does not show in "My Computer" or Explorer. I have tried disconnecting everything and rebooting but still have no CD icon.
    Any help?
    Thanks

    crgibson,

Don't know what OS you're running, or even if XP & 2000 would be the same, but in Windows 98, & 98SE right click on My Computer. Go to Properties. When System Properties pops up, click the Device Manager Tab. Find the CDROM icon. If you have both a burner & a player, there will be a plus sign to the left. Expand the plus sign if there is one. Highlight the one that describes your CDROM player then click the remove button. Then reboot.

If you don't have a plus sign then all you have is one CDROM. Just highlight it & click remove. Then re-boot.

Windows should re-recognize the CDROM drive when you re-boot, and you should now have a CD Icon in My Computer. Of course, you may have to make a new Desktop shortcut to it though.

"Lost ". So you had it at some point and then it disappeared?
What has changed on your system? What OS? Have you installed any new hardware, software, or drivers?

You need to supply as much information as possible, including what system you have, OS, and any other details that may be even remotely related to your problem.
