I need to re-install Windows 98 on my Dell Inspiron laptop.
The good news is I still have the Win98 install disk.
The bad news, I never wrote down the Key # that is needed to install.
Where do I go from here?
I cannot boot except from the installation disk.
Then the setup facility asks for the Key#, which I don't have.

If you can boot to windows you can get it from the registry.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

Look in the right pane for a value named ProductKey. The data for it will be the product key you want.

If the Windows sticker with the product key isn't on the laptop's case, you can call Dell and explain the problem. They might refer you to Microsoft and 99% of the time when Microsoft is contacted for the problem you have, they will give the caller a new number.
