lost cd drive

    I formatted my c drive. now I can not loaded windows 98 from my cd drive say can not find mscd 001. Have tried loading the floppy for cd. It won't load on the my c drive. How do I find my c drive to use my cd drive for loading my window?

    That's the big problem with reformatting the C: drive. It obliterates everything, even the info the puter uses to read the CD.

    Ideally, you should use the floppy that came with the 98 CD (assuming one did), which is designed for installing Windows.

    Absent that, try plan B: use another computer running 98 and create a startup disk.

    Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Startup disk

    You'll need one floppy disk and your 98 CD-ROM. The computer will create a floppy that allows access to the CD drive.
