Right click on taskbar, choose properties and put a check mark in the box where it says hide inactive icons.

Well, right off hand I'm not sure what would cause this. Have you tried using system restore yet? If not, give it a try.

    Start>Programs>Accessories>System Restore

Pick a date that predates the problem.

    Hi, Chalv ~

Don't worry about it - it didn't go anywhere.

It will fluctuate from time to time of being needed or not depending on what is active/nonactive and the behavior settings of each in the customization.

Maybe the icons got re-set in one of Windows' little psychotic episodes. ;)

To check that, right click on an empty space on the taskbar, choose Properties, then click on the Customize button on the Taskbar tab.

Scan down the list of icons and make sure the ones you want to be hidden when inactive are so marked. If not, click on the one you want to change and a drop-down arrow will appear to the right. Click on that and click on your choice from the list.

Once you have them all marked as you want, click OK.
