When I look at file lists eg. on explorer there is no longer an icon for pdf's, just the generic little file icon. This is not the case for any other known file type on my computer afaik eg. .txt, .html, .psd, .jpg all display on explorer with their proper little icon.

Looking at the properties of a pdf file windows recognizes the type of file as "Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Document" and knows to open with adobe reader 7, and so when I double click it does open with acroreader.

So why isn't the icon there? This has been bugging me a while now and thought I'd see if anyone might be able to give me a clue here.

    Thanks in advance.

I couldn't say how it happened, there are a few different causes with the same effect.

There is a way to repair it manually but it would probably be easier to re-install acroreader if possible.

If you prefer the manual/more complicated way let us know
