I'm running Windows XP Home on a Desktop and Vista Home Premium on a Laptop. They are the only two computers on my home wireless (dsl) network.

Recently, I've noticed I have lost access to the SharedDocs folder on my desktop from the Vista laptop.

The folder is visible. I have access to printing onto the XP machine from the Vista laptop and I have access to the Public folders from the XP desktop.

When I attempt to open the XP folder from my laptop access is denied and when I attempt to change permissions from Vista, I encounter the following: "unable to display current owner" and "you do not have permission to view or edit the object's permission settings ".

On the XP end the SharedDocs folder is properly shared. On Vista end, Network and Sharing Center is set up as private network with network discovery, file sharing, public folder sharing, printer sharing and media sharing all enabled.

    Any ideas? Thanks.

Try unsharing the folder in Windows XP, and then reshare it setting the appropriate permissions.
I would also recommend using the same workgroup, password, and username on both systems. Doing so allows simple sharing to work seamlessly.

Thanks. The un share/re share seems to have done the trick.
