    Hi all
When my Windows-XP-SP2 PC is started (power-ON boot) to resume from a previously Hibernated state, I am not able to regain a successful network connection to my DOCSIS Cable modem connected thru wired-LAN. So I am unable to get internet connection in that session. The problem persists even with a power- recycle of cable modem. Only way to restore normalcy & get back network connection is to shutdown & re-start the PC. But then I forgo the advantages of Hibernation facility.

In the above stated problematic state, the windows network is not able to obtain a proper DHCP (global) address from the ISP-server thru the cable modem. But the cable modem status lights indicate everything ok, including down-link negotiation success. The PC-network status reports a local address 192.168.xx.xx, even with cable modem power recycle. As mentioned above problem vanishes only with a total shutdown reboot.

    Configuration:
AMD Atlon 2400+PC, 256MB Ram running Windows XP-SP2. My PC acesses internet directly thru cable modem.
The reported problem is a recently developed problem.-some months back, even though i could not identify which software/configuration created it.

Can some expert help me solve this issue?
    regards valmiki

Either you have a router or are using Internet Connection Sharing if your lan ip is 192.168.xx.xx. If your comp is connected directly to the cable modem your comp ip would have the wan ip and not a local ip. Your nic may not fully support hibernate mode. Personally, I never use hibernate as it has never been a stable enough process for my liking, I just use power options to shut off monitor after a specified time period of inactivity.

Have you tried the command prompt to renew your ip?
    $# ipconfig /release
    $# ipconfig /renew

    Thanks TonyT for your reply.
I have no router. Also I have only one PC, so NOT using ICS. My PC is directly connected to the cable modem.
As you said I do get a WAN-IP (220.164.xx.xx) from the DHCP server (in the cable-modem I think), when there is no problem.

But after the hibernation-resume, the dhcp server is always assigning a fixed local ip address = 192.168.189.29 to the PC. It is also sssigning 192.168.189.xx figures for gateway, DHCP-server, DNS Server etc. What is intriguing is that from where all these 192.168.189.xx figures are coming? The cable modem local side address = 192.168.100.1. It is a TurboComm EC-400 modem.

The "ipconfig" commands suggested by you are also not changing the situation- same state

The TCP/IP configuration what I use is the simplest: (Obtain an IP address automatically & Obtain DNS address automatically).
    regards
