Hi, this is my first posting, although I've been doing LOTS of reading.:)
Yesterday, I performed a clean install of 7.02 and deleted my old 4.79. I followed the clean install instructions and did a backup of the entire 4.79 folder. All worked pretty well after I fixed a few things.
I fixed my mail so I can send and receive, however:
I didn't get all my mail/folders - it seems it's only old stuff.
The Address Book is there, but with many old addresses (people change -
    :D )
I didn't get all my Bookmarks.

I saw the thread "Installing ver 7.02 over 4.79 ", however, my question is how do I get those files from "C:/MyBackup. "??
I can't find it on Windows Explorer anywhere.
I'm using 98SE on Adelphia cable.

Thanks for any help you can provide!:)

Hi roysimm, and welcome to the Forum!

    Hi Roy,

I didn't get all my mail/folders - it seems it's only old stuff.

Did you try copying the Mail files without SNM extensions from your 4.79 backup?

They will replace any existing files in the new Mail folder. You may first want to rename the Communicator 4.79 Mail files, e.g., change Inbox to OldInbox, etc. The renamed files will appear in the Netscape 7.0 Mail. This will ensure that you lose no existing mail.

The Address Book is there, but with many old addresses (people change)

So this is not a "good" Address Book?

I didn't get all my Bookmarks.

Copy the bookmark.htm file from the 4.79 backup. Paste the file into your:
    C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\*.slt
You will be prompted that there is an existing file, and should you replace it. Answer YES, if you are certain that this is a good Bookmarks file.

I saw the thread "Installing ver 7.02 over 4.79 ", however, my question is how do I get those files from "C:/MyBackup. "?? I can't find it on Windows Explorer anywhere. I'm using 98SE on Adelphia cable.

You have no MyBackup folder on the C:\ drive? Do this and see if you can find your folder:
Start | Find | Files or Folders
    Type in MyBackup

    Let us know your progress.

    Thanks for your reply, Ramona.
I did the Start|Find|Files | "MyBackup" and the Microsoft Backup window popped up when I double clicked on the "MyBackup" file it found. This is the program (System Tool) I used to backup 4.79 to begin with. After much searching in folders and subfolders. I can't find anything that looks like the Mail folders, let alone files without SNM extensions.

Also, the Address Book was not the current one that I left with 4.79.

The Microsoft Backup window gives me a chance to 1)create a new backup job, 2)open an existing backup job, or 3)Restore backed up files. If I click on open an existing job (2) I get 4.79, but can't find the files I need in either of the two windows.

If you could give me the paths to find these folders, I might be able to finish.

    Thanks!

    Hi Roy,

It would have been better if you had left 4.79 on your system for a while, at least until you were certain that all your Preference files were converted to Netscape 7. If the Address Book doesn't make the conversion, you can Export the Address Book as an LDIF file, and then import it into Netscape 7. Without 4.79, that isn't doable. Did you have lots of addresses, or do you have a small Address Book? It could be that you will have to recreate it.

I did a test backup and saw no way to retrieve those file without doing a restore. I will not advise you to do this, as I wouldn't want to be responsible for you winding up losing all your Preferences. Realize that Netscape 7 and Communicator 4.79 share the C:\Program Files\Netscape Folder. If the Restore should go wrong, you might lose Netscape 7 as well.

When we talk about backing up the Profiles Folder, or Users Folder, this means a simple copy and paste. To create a Folder on your HD, and then copy the Profiles Folder and Paste it into the folder that you created.

Wish that I had more positive help going on here. :(
