I put this here. But if it should be somewhere else just move it.

As many of you may know already my Wife has a bad right shoulder.

    Now my problems.
We like to spend time playing games via our LAN. We just played a game of gribbage and I noticed that she was having trouble selecting cards etc. I looked over and she was using her left hand.
I asked and she said that she would forget and still use her index finger which of course would no be the right right mouse button instead of the left.
    Now my question is.
    Don't they make a lefthanded Mouse ?
And if such a thing can be had couldn't I somehow hooked up both a right and left one ?
I THINK that the buttons can be switched but that I bleleive that would only cause confussion. ( Alias-Then I would forget.LOL )

Gotta say goodnight and go Help Nancy

There are now mice designed specifically for left-handed users (shaped, button position) but in general the norm is to just switch buttons. Easily done via Control Panel>Mouse, by typing or pasting main.cpl on the Run line, or a couple of reg files to toggle it left/right without opening the mouse console.

Further investigation reveals that simply changing the registry would require you to logoff/logon for the change to take effect. A shortcut to main.cpl on the quicklaunch would be the quickest way to access the mouse console.

I am left-handed and have never had a problem using a standard 'old fashioned' mouse with just the two standard buttons and scroll wheel - MS Wheel Mouse Optical.

I guess I hold it at an angle in my hand and my index finger falls naturally on the left button - seems I lift the hand and twist a bit to get the index finger on the right button.

On or two mice listed at MS are described as suitable for left or right handed operation.

Where I do have a problem is with the fancy mice festooned with buttons, tilt wheels, etc which are designed for right hand use.

    Good Morning All

    Thank you for the information.

Also a another question comes to mind.
Does the OS involved make any difference ?
I myself say No. But feel I should ask anyway.

For a standard mouse - No - for advanced mice - maybe, i.e. the ability to run the software that comes with the mouse.

Again, I say thanks for the info and help.

I have no problem understanding what is suggested but at this time am a bit reluctant to try much. At least until we can get other things and my own mind cleared of more important things.
Also If I messup things could be worse. And right now something is better than nothing.
Alias- At this time I do not feel comfortable messing with the registry.
Also I have a Step Daughter coming for the holidays and I believe she can help too.
Well I guess that I had better get outa here and go check the mail before Nancy stops asking and ORDERS me to go get it. ( or takes my dinner OFF of the stove ) LOL

There's no need to do any registry editing, BB. Open the Control Panel>Mouse and you will find an option to switch buttons. As soon as you check the box, the buttons will be switched (you will need to use opposite button to OK out).

WOW !! You sure nailed that one down tight.
Plus you also woke up my sleeping personal memory.

    Start-Settings-Control Panel-Mouse

Works great. Now I just need to get Nancy to sit down with me and make sure of what SHE wants to do.

Just needed to get rid of the icon that wound up in the lower riight corner of the TaskBar. Don't need kids messing with it by thinking " Lets see what this is ".

    Thanks again.

Well folks I just gotta let you know that my day has ended the best that anyone could ask for.
After getting dishes done and kitchen cleaned up I came back to my PC and I just got a big Thank you. It works much easier.
She also says that the card games themselves seem to be working overall much smoother.

I really did not do anything ( that I know of ) other than look and make sure things were set right. But it must have done some good so who cares.
    Maybe be just redoing/resetting the drivers/settings ??

One last thought. Could some game or something that I installed possibly have corrupted/confused things ?

Gotta gp get some rest and get ready to face a new day. Carpets to sweep. Flours to mop. Company coming

    Good Night

Glad to hear she's happy about the change BillyBob. My guess would be, rather than corruption of the mouse drivers or something along those lines, that Nancy has been secretly hiding that she's actually left handed so things seem smoother :D:D
