I am wondering if anybody else is having this problem.

I am using this hack on a Dell Notebook and I am trying to increase the number of downloads in IE 6, but it's not working.

For others out there who need the hack, here it is:

    Start the Registry Editor

    Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Internet Settings

Select New > DWORD Value from the Edit menu

    Name the new value MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server

Right-click the MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server value and choose Modify

Under Base, click the radio button next to Decimal

In the Value Data: box enter the number of simultaneous connections you want to set (for example 10 is a good value), and click OK

Repeat steps 3 - 7 using the new value MaxConnectionsPerServer

    Exit the registry editor

This normally works without any problems, I have done this hack on 98, 2000, and XP desktops, but it's not working on my new laptop.

Does anybody have any ideas what could be happening or how to fix this?

    Thanks.

    Downloading more than 10 files

    Daizy -

Thanks for the tip, but the VB script that is found on
Kelly's Korner does the same thing that my description does.
It affects the same registry tweaks.

    Thanks again!

Do you know of any other possibilities??

    Thanks.

According to ElderGeeks, the Value Data should be changed to [0000000a] in both edits. Whether that's true or not, couldn't tell you. ;)

    10 decimal = 'a' hexadecimal.

Does anyone know what the effect would be of the different numbers for MaxConnectionsPerServer and MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server
in the reference I posted versus those in the other posts? Is 10 better than 8, than 6?

    Posting different numbers

    Welsh -

Let's say you entered 2 different numbers - 10 and 6 (A and 6 in hex) and you visit a few different servers... if a server is recognized as a 1.0 server (and what makes that difference, I don't know) you would only be able to download let's say 6 files, but on the other (non 1.0) servers you would be able to download 10 files.

    Hope this helps.

    same problem

    Hi!

This same problem happened to me a few days ago. I have had the MaxConnectionsPerServer values on my desktop XP machine for the last year and it has worked fine. Then suddenly it stopped working, even though the values still exist. I tried removing and then re-adding them but still I can only get the standard two dowloads at a time.

The only changes to my machine that I know of were an auto-update from Microsoft, and I ran Ad-Aware to get rid of spyware. I'm not sure if either of these things are the problem, but I have used Ad-Aware and similar programs before with now problem. Perhaps the latest auto-update from Microsoft (or in your case, that already exists on the laptop) won't allow this registry to be changed. How can we find out?

I have looked but found no information on this. I want my downloading capabilities back!!
