Looking for Excel or similar with trending/projecting capability

I set up a very rudimentary chart in Excel that gives me the total value of my "portfolio" such as it is. I have a column of stocks and mutual funds names, a column with the number of shares of each, another column with their value, and a 4th column with the product of each(#shares x value). The spreadsheet(?) is set up so that under the 4th column, there is displayed the sum of all of the values in that column - showing my net asset value.
Once or twice a week, I change(update) the value of the shares according to where they closed that day, and get a revised value of my holdings. The trouble is that the previous day's or week's value is gone forever.
I wonder if Excel can display a historic chart of that total value number, so that I could see how my portfolio is doing over a period of time, be it months or years. A graph would be ideal.
I bought Microsoft Money Deluxe, thinking that it might contain something like that, but I can't even get past the installation phase with it.
Does Quicken have what I am looking to accomplish?
If not, is there a freebie floating around out there somewhere, like on tucows or download.com, or Cnet, etc.?

 

Have a look at the Excel help topic Template Wizard with Data Tracking and employing the use of a database. I'm guessing that you could setup charts in the database as well.
