    Hello,

I am hoping someone can suggest an easy solution for a problem. I have an XML file that is used to build a website in English. I need to have this website translated into multiple languages. The tags in the XML contain quite a bit of HTML code. I will be working with other people to do the translation.

Does anyone know about an Excel add-in that would help me modify portions of my XML code? I know how to read the XML data file into Excel and how to export it out when finished. There are around 40 tags that need editing and it is not feasible to do the editing manually. I think I need some form of HTML editor that supports foreign language characters that runs as an Excel add-in.

Any ideas? I am leaning towards Excel because most business people know how to use Excel. If there is a perfect solution for MS Access, that could work too.

Thanks! You guys have been a huge help to me in the past.
    Chip

Personally, I like to use a tool that is specifically design for a job. So for XML, I find the best results are had from an XML editor.

Altova's XMLSpy is well known, and there used to be a free for personal use version, but I can't see it on their site now. For me it was too complicated for what I wanted.

My XML requirements are fairly simple and straight forward, and I find Architag's Xray2 is just what I need.

I think if I were using XML more often and doing more than storing simple data for a PHP website, I'd look at an Eclipse plug in. For example, http://xmlbuddy.com/2.0/products.html. Eclipse plug-ins can be found here too (click on XML in the list on the left).

    Update

    ReggieB,

Thank you for the suggestions. I have been offline this past week - first due to being swamped at work and then because I needed to evacuate my home due to the San Diego wildfires.

I am back online now. For better or worse, I went ahead and hired a developer to create a custom application for me. The developer has been very responsive and pleasant to work with, but I think he undersestimated the task at the start (isn't this always the case?). For a variety of reasons a 3-day project has been stretched to almost two weeks and still is not done.

I did a quick review of your suggestions and must admit that I am in over my head. I am not a programmer by nature. The people who will be using the tool will be translating HTML code from English, to say Spanish, so that the web page displays Spanish text. Do any of these products have WYSIWYG HTML editors to allow novices to edit HTML without impacting the rest of the XML code? I may consider an option that costs $500 or less. I have invested too much in my current project to afford much more.

Thanks again for your help. You have replied to several of my questions in the past. I feel bad I did not respond sooner.
