    Hello,

For many years, I relied on my Microsoft Works Calendar to remind me of birthdays, anniversaries, doctor appointments, etc. I was never late, because the program would remind me with a pop up, and alarm, as often as I wanted it to, for any particular event. Then I upgraded to Windows 7, and that was the end of Microsoft Works Calendar.

Since then, I'm like a fish out of water. I've tried a few other calendar/reminder programs, but not one of them works exactly the same as what I am used to. So my question is, is it at all possible to get Microsoft Works Calendar back in any way, or is there any other program out there, that is set up to work in the very same way? And if so, what is the name of the program.

Since losing my Works Calendar, I've been late or totally forgotten events, occasions and appointments, and it's driving me nuts. I would like to find a solution as quickly as possible.

    Thank you,
    Sandie

Microsoft Works 9 is compatible with Windows 7 - I've run it ever since Windows 7 was released. Admittedly I only use the database, but AFAIK all components are fully operational.

    Check out eBay.

I use the calendar in Outlook 2007, but I have to open the program to see any popup messages. Not sure if Outlook can be configured to run in the background.

    Thank you,

I knew about the calendar in Outlook, in Windows 7, but I don't use Outlook at all, and like you said, the program has to be open at all times for the reminders to pop up. Otherwise it's not good at all. So that does not work in the way i am wanting it to.

I didn't know there was a Windows Works 9 available. I will look into that, so thank you for that suggestions.

If anyone has any other ideas, I'm willing to listen, and try a few programs to see which will work best for me.

Have you tried any of the gadget calendars?

I haven't tried any of them, myself, so I can't comment on what they can, or cannot do.

Thank you, everyone, for all the wonderful suggestions. I see now I have some decisions to make. I am making a note of Microsoft Works 9, because I really loved it's calendar and how it worked. But it might work using another program, if it is similar enough. So I will be trying a few things, but at least now I have some good suggestions to follow.

Again, thank you very much, for the help.

Would you post back with your choice, Sandie? It sounds like something that I may be interested in.

    James,
I downloaded one of the free desktop apps that Steve R Jones provided the link for. It's called Rainlender - lite. I am not sure I will stick with it, but I'm giving it a trial run.

If I find it does not work to my satisfaction, I am just going to purchase Microsoft Works 9, and install that. I like free when I can get it, but only if it functions exactly as I need it to. I don't mind paying if that means I get exactly what I want.

    Good luck to you,
    Sandie

For what it's worth, I am using MS Money 2004 from a Works CD on Windows 7. I don't have the Works suite installed, so I can't comment on the rest. I hear Money 2004 will not work on Windows 8, but maybe Money Sunset will.

    Thank you James,

But if I'm going to buy the program, it will definitely be Microsoft Works. I've used it for years, love the different functions and how they work, familiar enough with it, and I know it will do everything I need it to. So I would not be buying any other product. But thank you for the suggestion.

Thank you, I didn't fully realize that. I don't really have any use for the Money program though. So I'll have to see if they automatically come bundled together, and sell for a different price, or if they are 2 different packages. One with, and one without, and for a bit less in cost. :)

Money was discontinued a few years ago, but other than background banking, it works as well as it ever did. I'd be lost without it.
