Was hoping someone can point me in the right direction...
I'm looking for two applications, hopefully freeware (but will purchase if need be and it's worth it) that will do the following.

I want to install a usb hard drive and use it as a back up drive for data files.
When I save an Excel file on the local drive C:, I'd like a copy of that same file to go to the usb hard drive at the same time with no user intervention.
The idea is if I had to leave town in a hurry because of weather, I could yank the usb drive and be gone.

The other application I'm looking for is a deletion program that will completely wipe of a file to the point that recovery software could not restore.

    Any suggestions?

    Hi Joe Locke
For your second question I use Eraser.
    http://www.tolvanen.com/eraser/

It is able to wipe individual files up to 35 times.
It over writes the file with random ones and zeros.

On the first question seems like there is a program that
will do that but for the life of me I can't remember the name.

    Hello Joe,

http://www.smsync.com/ may a little more than you want, does local synchronous backups by folder - file types.
