Tried Mozilla's Adblock Plus and it had no effect on FF.
What's a good blocker that doesn't take much memory?

Adblock Plus has been around for long time, and, updated for any Firefox. I don't like such thing, but should work for you, if you find it necessary.

You have to tell it which ads you want it to block. I have been using it for years with FF including the latest version (3.6).

I doubt there is any add blocker that can intuitively tell what is an ad and what is not. Many web sites use third party web sites add content to their web data and they are not all ads by any stretch.

Doug, Can you give me some clues as to how to do this? How to ID the ads?

I don't use FF hardly, but I reckon you should be able to right click on any ad and then have adblock filter it through the right click menu.

According to the directions given here, you just right click on the banner and in the context menu select "Adblock. "
Do you not get the same menu?

Adblock Plus will not block every Add. It will come up with Flash Player on the one's that you can't block. But yes right click on the advertisement and add it to the filter.

I've had a look about and can't seem to find anything that will block them all. It looks like you might be stuck with them.

I don't get how Opera has more 'excellent' marks, but still comes out 4th.

    That's easy Crunchie. She's a loon.

Oops, you meant the browser, didn't you?
    Don't know about that one.
I hate changing software and relearning stuff, so I can't see switching.
