I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a free LAN chat application I can use for my office network. Prefer not to use MS mgr.

Take a look Here. Something on the page should fit your needs and the top item looks to be a good one.

Note that I have no personal experience with any of these so had to go with just the descriptions. Some others listed there are also freeware.

I always use the command prompt at school. and @ freinds houses if were trying to start a LAN game that isnt working.
Just type "net name" (no "'s) @ each computers command prompt, and then to send a message type:
    net send PCNAMEHERE MESSAGE HERE
in the command prompt. So, If I was on a PC named PC001 and I wanted to send a message to PC002 I would type:
net send PC002 hey. whats up?
and to respond, they would type:
net send PC001 not much. how about you?
Of course, If you want to keep your employees out of the command prompt, this isnt for you...

    Hi marty

I use Vivster on our business network and have found it very good to use and simple to setup. Free to use and no issues at all to date.

Yes indeed Newt. Right here in cyberspace waiting for dinner to be ready. I may check out vivster now that I see the posting and then write back where things stand.

Vivster seems nice, thanks for the tip. Small footprint, free, easy to set up, and it works!

Now to see if my family will use it with me.
