Any suggestions on a compiler for a beginner? I used to program with Basic/Extended Basic years ago on an Apple IIe computer but got out of touch since retirement. Now I'm bored enough to try the new stuff. I've been reading tutorials on C programming but I need a compiler to actually get used to it and was just wondering if anyone knew of a good one for a beginner. Thanks.

    Free C Compiler

Hi Dopey- I've heard that this one is good- www.bloodshed.net/ - 16k - but haven't used it myself. When I typed "Free C compiler" into my Google search bar, I got a million and a half hits. So if you don't like the bloodshed one, there seems to be a lot more to choose from. Hope this is useful. Clydeo22.

The Bloodshed from the above link is a GUI editor and compiler, I have it myself, though I have the 4.01. Version 5 is currently Beta. You can still get the 4.00 from this page, scroll on down the page and pick either the Sourceforge or Simtel link to get it.
If you like, send me an email by clicking on my name to the left, and I can send you the 4.01 update, about 736kb zipped, via my ISP account. It is a simple matter of copying the Exe file to use it, but you have to have the 4.00 first. The 4.01 update is not available for download, if you order the CD, you will have it.
The CD is included if you buy the book, Sam's Teach Yourself C++, at your local bookstore.
Borland has their dos based compiler available for download, but that is all it is. The Bloodshed would be the better choice for beginning.
