I have a client that is thinking about networking 2 machines together. Now that doesnt sound all that hard but the 2 machines are roughly a quarter to half mile a part from each other.

Have no idea what the best way to achieve this is so advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks a head of time.

He will need A LOT of cable and line amplifiers along the way! Best to use 2 different isp connections at each location and then use remote access software to transfer data between the 2 locations.

Go wireless. Two narrow beam antennas with optional outside poles to achieve a preferred line of sight focus.
    Possible line amps.

I had thought of wireless and have a couple clients using it but it has a distance limitation of about 300 feet. Is there other wireless that goes further ???

If I go the remote software way like with PCAnywhere then client needs to have a static ip address with either dsl or cable modem and having a static is a little more expensive.

I like the wireless idea but again is there wireless out there that has a better distance factor ???

I liked the link to the wireless site. I will keep that one in mind. What type of nic is needed ??? Or just a normal 802.11b ???

PCAnywhere the only way I have ever used it with static ip. If dynamic then you would need to change the ip everytime it changed or the lease was renewed. Correct or tell me why not.
