I am facing a problem at one of my client's site. The owner would like to have a detailed log of all the activities done on the internet (website name along with the computer IP/name that accessed that site with date & time).

I have searched the internet for this type of detailed log in hardware router/firewall but nothing of value has turned up. I know this can be done in a software firewall (Smoothwall/IPCop), but I am wary of taking responsibility for one more computer. Does anybody know of any hardware product which has such logging ?

Most of the hardwall firewalls I've played with can be set up to output the data you are looking for to SNMP traps. You can then use something like Kiwi Syslog to grab the information. Potentially there is an issue having SNMP coming out of the firewall, but as long as you make sure it's only available via the internal ports, the risk is small.

I use a Netasq firewall that comes with reasonable reporting tool. Lists of connections, details by protocol; that sort of thing. It's a little slow if you want more than just today's data, but it does it. I also get reports of unusual activity e-mailed to me directly.
