I'm running Windows 2000 SP2 with IE6. I run it on my laptop, so I usually just login using my richardl account, which is in the administrators group. Recently I tried to login to one of the other accounts on my laptop, and I discovered that I couldn't. Further experimenting revealed two behaviors:

    1. Existing user accounts would allow me to login but the taskbar at the bottom would immediately disappear, as if explorer.exe crashed.
    2. New accounts could be created, but login on the hangs (it just sits at the "loading personal settings" stage and I have to hard boot my laptop).

I'm not sure if it's related to my upgrade from IE 5.5 to IE6. Has anyone seen this problem and/or know how to solve it? Right now, I can only login to my laptop using one account. Thanks.

You didn't say but they sound like local accounts rather than domain accounts.

Try opening a DOS window and putting in chkdsk /f and answer Yes when it asks about doing the chkdsk at next boot. Then reboot.

If you still have problems after that, you will probably have to try the repair console.
