Over the last few weeks my computer (XP Pro) has been locking up, I could be in explorer or IE7 (even tried with rolling back to IE6) or any other application, and the CPU stays running at 50%+ and on some occasions the fans kick in, if I end task on the offending application the whole system locks up with no response from the start menu button.

I have tried sfc/scannow and all seems okay, I am running Spyware Doctor and the latest McAfee security center also defraged the hard drive.

All of my drivers are up to date graphics, audio etc, I would like to be able to see what process (if any) is causing this to happen, does anybody know of any software that may help me to identify the problem.

If the lockups are caused by a System or Application fault there may be an event recorded in Event Viewer - flagged with either a white cross on a red ground or an ! mark on a yellow ground.

Right click My Computer icon> Manage > Event Viewer > System & Application.

Possibly a heat problem? I'd open up the puter and see how much dust is in there and give it a good cleaning if necessary.

I have given the CPU a good "Blow" it was not to bad, I have also checked the event viewer and there were quite a few in there but I think a lot of them where due to the crashes and certain process could not run, so I have saved and cleared the events and wait for the next "lockup" and then recheck.

I will report back the outcome.......

I know it seems a lot of information but can you see anything obvious, the n_view info is to do with my graphics card.
