Hi everyone …. I'm helping a friend out on his computer , Problem is he cannot log into any accounts , What had happen was ? He remove the check mark on the User Account >> "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer " Though it was highlighted on the administrator account when he click apply , It show another windows for a password which he left empty/ blank, Now when he try to load Windows he get this error below

The system could not log you on. Make sure your Name and domain are correct,
the type your password again . Letters in passwords must be typed using the
    correct case.

If he try safe mode ? It’s the samething, can’t get in, He can’t even boot from the XP cd , There is nothing else it would seem he can do, Or is there ? Does anyone have any ideas as to what he can try to do ? To me this sound pretty odd that windows would lock him out like this , I have try this on my test computer and it has lock me out as well, Am I wrong to think this isn’t right at all for windows to do this ?

Any help is much appreciated , Thanks

What is is windows version? Pro or Home?

What logon name is he trying to log.

Does it show up on the screen?

Get this info back to us and I can probably help you.

Hee hee! If you tell windows to not let you in unless you have a password, and you don't have a password and exit, then try to get back in without one, what do you expect! Are you a Blond???

Don't sound pretty odd to me!

Hey Bob ... Its XP Pro and it seem that its trying to load the hidden administrator account and it ask for a password , Though at the beginning when windows got installed it never was given a password , Infact there no password for any accounts , I don't understand when you say "Hee hee! If you tell windows to not let you in unless you have a password, and you don't have a password and exit, then try to get back in without one, what do you expect!" Are saying this because he remove the check mark on "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" Because the way he understood it was ? If he doesn't have a check mark on it , He wouldn't have to enter one , So which is it ? Thanks

    OK hit

    Ctrl-Alt-Del Twice

The user screen will change to the Classic logon window.

Then in the logon panel erase the Administrator and type in his correct username in its place. No password so hit enter.

Bob it wouldn't let me in .......

How to get lock out from windows , First make sure under use account you remove the following check marks >>> " Use the welcome screen " and " Use fast user switching " then reboot your computer , Once back up again go to the run command and enter CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2 Now
If you already don’t have a check mark on" Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" Place one there , Also make sure that the administrator account is highlighted , Now at the same time remove the check mark , click apply , which will pop up a windows asking for a password for administrator , leave it blank /empty , Now when you try to restart windows you will be lock out

If you are going to try this ? Make sure its on a test computer , not one you need to use , Also When windows got installed at the beginning there was no password given

    Mmmm

I suggest you go to one of these sites and build a bootable cd which both have password recovery programs. Boot from the CD and use the password utility.

The one for windows takes more work and needs the XP CD.

The other simpler and smaller is DOS based but can access NTFS partiotions and can reset the Administrator password.

If you want it fixed better go do what I said.

As to why? I don't know or care. As since I do have both of these specal
repair CD's plus several other different ones I can fix it easily and quickly.

Bob , Its not a matter as to whether you care or not and I'm sure those programs will boot up to gather your data but the real cause here is ? For others that might get caught like my friend did and is now left with no windows loading , I think the best bet would be for Microsoft to correct this bug before it can cause damage to others , Wouldn't you agree ? For myself ? Its no big deal because I done it on a test computer , Not my main ones

Then it wouldn't be asking for a password.

Windows doesn't 'automatically' set a password. During setup you're asked to provide an administrator password, so probably that's where it got entered.

Hi Arie .... When this computer got installed it was never given one , and I mean for the administrator account that gets hidden , Its the one when you install windows , This wasn't given a password ... If you have a TEST computer that you don't care ? Give my post number 7 a try and I bet your computer will get lock out , Also when it trys to load you will notice its the administrator account which will ask for a password , but again one wasn't given , What you will get is this error below

The system could not log you on. Make sure your Name and domain are correct, the type your password again . Letters in passwords must be typed using the correct case.

I would believe this is a bug in windows

Snooker, When I perform the sequence you outlined, I do indeed get a log in screen with the Administrator already entered in the user field and requesting a password. If I leave it blank (since I have never set any passwords) it refuses to allow me access. I get an error message pertaining to restrictions being set to not allow access. My solution is to type owner in the user field and then press enter, with the password box still empty. I am then allowed back into a Windows session and can reset the options back to where they were before the experiment.

Now, if you type your user id (in my case owner) in place of Administrator and press enter and you get refused - then you have a password set for that identity. No question about that.

I don't consider that a full lock out condition, just the stand alone Administrator id is locked out for some odd reason. It's an anomoly for sure but I don't see it as impassable.

Surferdude2 , You did it bud , I did use one of the account that does have administrator rights and it loaded up , I'm also glad that it did happen to you because I told a few people and they couldn't understand what I was trying to say or do as I suggested them to try , I was thinking for a second are mine computers strange , Mind of their own ? This was a little puzzling because I thought I did try to enter another admin account with admin rights and it didn't work , I must of type it in wrong , I'm glad you figure it out , I was going nuts LOL :D

    Thanks bud !
