    Hello all!

In WinXP there´s the possibility to locate the Print Spooler outside the system partition.

Is this a good idea only if it ends up on a different physical drive or is it worth while even if it ends up on a different partition on the same physical drive?

    Thanks for Your time,
    Christer

The reason I ask is that a few other recommendations are to move other folders, such as E-mails and TIF's off of the system partition to reduce defragmentation.

The Print Spooler also gets used and dumped which, as I understand it, cause fragmentation. Is there any drawbacks in moving it to another location, such as a "trash" partition?

Another folder that came to mind is the CD-burner cash. In Nero you can specify to which folder other than the default (windows\temp) and I´m thinking of moving that one too.

    All opinions are appreciated!

    Thanks for Your time,
    Christer

    Hi Christer

Moving the Spool Folder is claimed to increase performance - MS Windows XP Magazine.

I moved mine to another partition on a separate drive which also acts as a temp repository for CD burn (Not the XP folder - I use Nero) and some data backup. Have had NO problems - I print quite large Photoshop files ~ 150 Mb.

Whether or not there is an increase in performance is ???

You can relocate CD burning and several other folders in TweakuiXP

On the other hand...your hard drive is at it's current fragmented state....You print a large job...it's uses ram and or hdd space to do it's thing....when done, it leaves the hard drive just like it found it.

Can't say that I'd bother to move the print spooler.

    Hi guys,
    thanks for Your input!

There are so many ideas about how to set up the computer and some people believe in stripping down the system partition to the bare minimum and put everything else on dedicated partitions.

Others say "don´t bother! - one big unpartitioned harddrive is the best solution ".

I´m throwing out a few questions to see if any of my thoughts are worth following up and, if possible, I´ll find a sensible compromize.

    Regards,
    Christer
