Two week old build has page loading issues. A rural area friend had a lightening strike that disabled his computer. His wife's computer was aging and slow so we decided that a barebone might be a good way to recover. I had just done one and it is working well, so I built my friend two new computers. Both machines have the same motherboard and harddrive model but everything else is different. I built and loaded them basically the same as mine. Got all of the Microsoft upgrades done, loaded Spybot S&D, SpywareGuard, SpywareBlaster, Free AVG, Firefox 3, all like my setup.

He emailed me Friday that he is not able to load site linked pages from sites main page that he frequents. The issue is duplicated on his wife's machine, but not mine. I use high speed Verizon DSL and he satellite by Hughes. The issue is the same with IE & Firefox on both his machines, but not duplicated on mine using Firefox, IE, Flock, or Seamonkey.

    Site example: Municode.com
    select link Online Library
    Choose state North Carolina
    Choose link Granville County
Choose link Granville County Code of Ordinances

Neither machine at his house will load Code of Ordinance page, it takes a while and done appears in the lower corner with a blank screen. Both his machines are ethernet connected to his router (same model as mine).

After no help from Hughes, we thought we would try some real help.

    Hi Jo

    Welcome to the BBS!

OK what happens on other sites like MSN and Yahoo?

We are trying to determine if it is this site only (Municode.com) issue?

What Service pack level, SP2 or 3?

    What IE 6 or 7?

    What Virus scanner and firewall?

    A test to perform:

Boot to Safe Mode with networking, video will be ugly but see if issues are gone.

    Get back!

    Mike

And a Happy meal with Honey Monk to you Mike. :)

Called my friend, no visits to MSN & Yahoo. Another site ncgop.org when clicked candidates link he got the same blank page. Most sites work like they should, but both of those are running a database.

One machine SP2, the other SP3 my machine SP2

    IE7 on all

Free AVG and Windows firewall on all

Safe Mode is the same as normal.

    Hi Jo

:)You go back for some time! Only old timers like me remember "Honey Monk ". It is known as Lexington BarBQue now to most, for many years.

I guess you know they now have a long list of politicians and celebs that have eaten there Tom Cruise, Robert Duvall, Jack Nicholson and others I can't remember, plus a couple of Vice presidents.

OK Jo before we go off on a time consuming tanget here I suggest you bring one of the boxes back to your location an hook to your Internet connection and test.

Of course you know you can bring only the box, use yur mouse keyboard and monitor!

Without getting techinical, Satellite is different in the way Upload and Downlod work. If we don't get this out of the way now it may bite us later!

    Your call!

Well I feel it is almost certainly it!

And if not we will be better able to fix it with you on the computer.

I am assuming they may not have the skills to do the procedures required.

And it would be twice as hard for you to relay from us.

Perhaps someone has some other ideas or has Satellite can offer some insight.

The fact that it is basically a clone of your own system and that all 3 major browsers do not work leads me to believe it has something to do with Satellite.

If Satellite were ruled out I will go all the way with you ever how long it took.

But I have limited time and don't wish to get tied up for hours working in left field!

That is the issue that is concerning me. It is happening on two machines built within hours of each other and less than 30 days of mine. The difference is the satellite, but why would the computer care what the router is connected to because the router is the mothers breast to the computer via the internet.

Why is it effecting only a few sites?

Usually it's some silly little thing that creates these hair pulling incidents anyways. grrrr

Just throwing in a few guesses / suggestions ....

    With all computers off ...
Remove router and attach "1" computer directly to satellite port. Start attached computer. If sites can be access, we know what device to trouble shoot / eliminate. (If router has a "Backup Settings" - Export option, would be wise to run that before above).

I called and had my bud shut down as directed and bypass the router to directly access the modem. I had him go to the Municode site and the same issue occurred as did through the router.

Obviously, I don't have the same router, or set up. I had no problem.
I linked to Granville Co., NC, and Omaha, NE where I live. A darned good site.
Why would the Satellite connection have anything to do, is beyond me.

WS, It doesn't have to be the satellite to make me happy. :)
We'll be willing to try most anything to resolve this issue.

For kicks and giggles, I tried it on the wife's computer (my old machine) new HDD build the same time as mine (wireless desktop) and my son's laptop (running Vista). All load the Granville County Code of Ordinances.

My friend did try the other link on the page where you can purchase the docs and it loads fine, it's the free viewing page that wont open from either machine at his home.

Maybe someone will be along shortly with the fix for him.

thanks to all that have responded.

I will do my utmost to help after it is tested on Cable or DSL.

I have been doing this for 30 years have forgotten as much as I know.

Some things I don't even know I know until I get involved.

But I do know if I spend days on this and find out it is Satellite like I already think it is, I will want to Kick myself and I don't want to want to Kick myself, been there done that!

Does he have a friend or relative that he can take the box to and test it on cable or DSL?

Satellite has totally seperate up and down channels and has lag especially on up plus other issues.

But I will advise the shotgun fix procedures below:

    Start-Run
    type
    cmd

Now drag mouse with left button down across the lines below one at a time copy then paste each line below (1 at a time) to an open CMD prompt and hit enter twice, ignore any errors for now.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------
    netsh interface ip delete arpcache

    ipconfig /flushdns

    ipconfig /release *

    ipconfig /renew *

    ipconfig /registerdns

    nbtstat -RR

    netsh winsock show catalog > "%USERPROFILE% "\Desktop\lsp.txt

    netsh winsock reset catalog

    netsh winsock show catalog >> "%USERPROFILE% "\Desktop\lsp.txt

    netsh int ip reset > "%USERPROFILE% "\Desktop\tcpreset.txt

Reboot see new icons on desktop, paste contents of lsp and tcp.txt back to thread.

    Next:

    Download Dial-A-Fix (DAF)

Have XP CD available in case DAF needs a file.

Check all boxes on the screen (clear any restrictions if it shows any)
    Then click GO!

    Reboot retest!

    Get back to us.

    Good John

I was supposed to be out of town tomorrow but got it fixed online so will be available then.

Hope he has a while it would be better with you on the keyboard as you said earlier they were not as experienced in these issues.

Like I said I am with you all the way either way Satellite or not, I just want to know for sure it is or is not the Satellite and where to begin.

No need to do the procedure in my last post until you have it hooked up to to your DSL and it still does not work.

If it works right of on your network do not do my procedure. If it still does the same then do my proceure before posting.

Mornin, The machine is connected to my DSL and the page loaded quickly, telling me it is Satellite related.

    Any comments?

    Hi guys

    I tode ge so!:D

Now we know what direction to go.

OK John I guess you know that it has to go back and connected to the Satellite in order to fix it (there is nothing to fix here as it works).

Did you set up both Linksys routers? If so do you know how to print the Status page and other pages?

If so a copy of yours needs to go back to his location and his router settings need to be printed also and compared to yours (except IP and DNS).

For now do all in my last post #15 and submit the txt files as they also will need to be compared to when he gets back to Satellite.

If you are not going back with him then you need to show him as you do all the steps as they will need to br repeated on his end and the txt files posted again for comparision.

From there we will need to continue after I can see the differences including the Router settings.

If you want you can email me the Router settings for both locations as they have some confidential info that should not be on the www.

Now if you can see the Router differences and change them to match yours and all works then no need to send. This is the first thing to do when back at Satellite sync router settings.

In the meantime I will be researching Satellite specific TCP/IP settings.

Mike, he left with the machine 5 minutes or so ago.

May I remind you that we bypassed the router and went straight to his modem, and duplicated the issue. In my thinking and I might be wrong it shouldn't be router, but I will defer.

He asked while he was here if he needed to load the Hughes install disc that was originally installed by the Sat. installer. I told him that I had such a disc from Verizon that I loaded with new install, but was not loaded since. I think it may be needed to set the account up.
