I attempted to install Norton Personal Firewall 2001. I put the cd in Drive D and went to My Computer --> Drive D to click the Install icon. To my amazement My Computer showed no objects on Drive D. I thought I had lost everything. I rebooted. Midway through startup the screen went black for about 45 seconds and then startup continued without incident. This still happens. Fortunately the system seems to work properly once it starts.

    Any thoughts, suggestions, etc.?

The "black screen" thing happens now at every boot?

Did you ever get the firewall loaded?

Do your event logs show anything interesting?

It happens every time. I did not load it. I stopped immediately when My Computer showed and messaged No Objects. As far as the log is concerned I have no experience with it. Tell me what to look for. Many thanx.

NT systems (NT, 2K, XP) record significant system happenings in special log files.

You can use the event viewer to look at them. You should have an applications log, a security log, and a system log.

You will see routine items as well as problems.

If any get your attention, you can use the M$ online help site to get further information since these happenings tend to have articles on there.

Easiest way to get to the event viewer is to right-click on My computer, select "manage" and then select the "event viewer ".

You will see the events as a single line item. Double click to open any that you want detail on.
