    hello all,

I just reformatted my hard drive, as XP wouldn't load. Now I tried to reinstale xp through :
1)cd portable and after loading the temporary files get the warning: "windows could not start because of an error in the software. please report this problem as: load needed DLLs for kernel. please contace your support person to report this problem. "
    2) through ms dos and after loading the temporary files ,get the screen of three choices to continue.....press enter or to repair .....press R .....etc
but unforuniatley keyboard keys is completely deemed.
Any ideas, on how I can fix this? Thank you

Thanks for your intrest , but pls be advised that microsoft solution is not workable as there is no system loaded on the machine after formatting part C. I tried to download XP CD but the ugly message is still apearing.
    could we consider another solution?

Does the keyboard not work? If you are using a USB keyboard, you might need to change to a PS/2 type.

What are the details about the computer? Is it a custom built type or an OEM computer like a HP, Compaq or Dell?

Thanks indeed Matt. keyboard (ps/2 type)does not work only after downloading the first temporary files in the first process of loading XP CD but before that it works well. I'm realy astonished as upon reaching this process of loading cd ,the keyboard refuse to work completely. If it works I can complete the whole process of downloading CD. By the way the computer is built type and not OEM one.
    kindest regards

I am having trouble imagining what exactly is happening. The Microsoft information seems to say the error message happens when Windows is already installed, but you say you have formatted the drive and you are trying to install Windows from the CD (be careful when you say "download ", that is to get something from the internet).

Is the CD you are using clean and free of scratches?

Since you have formatted the drive, next time you run the installation, delete the partition and remake it, then format before you start installing Windows.

Are you using a Microsoft CD?

What is on the screen when you find the keyboard has stopped working?

Unfortuniately, keyboard stopped working upon reashing the following screen of installation:
    welcome to setup
To set up windows xp now.......etc
    To repair awindows xp......
    To quit set up........

I tried more than three times on installing XP CD(of course clean copy not scratching and not driginal one) despite formatting partion c but the process of installation stopped upon reaching the above page of process. However, as you said, this message apeared for the first time upon cleaning the part.C on the old win xp (before formatting) and still apearing after formatting.

I suggest you go to the hard disk drive manufacturer's website and get the utilities for "setting up" (partitioning and formatting) your hard drive. Use those to build and format the partition.
    ExcelStore

    Hitachi/IBM

    Samsung

    Seagate, Maxtor, Quantum

    Western Digital

The utilities should load keyboard and even mouse drivers, so that will be a test that they are working.

I might wonder that you need to load SATA Controller drivers when the Windows CD starts to load (see the information across the bottom of the screen). SATA Controller drivers could be needed if you are using Windows disk that is pre-SP2. If so, you should look at creating a slip-streamed SP2 or SP3 Windows CD.
