    Hi,
I am using a linksys WRT54G, and for some strange reason, I cannot get the router to assign any clients an IP address. It was working fine until all of a sudden, it stopped working. Very Strange.

I have tried doing a hard reset, but that did not fix anything, so I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix such a problem. I am using wireless, and have tried using the hard cable, but that has not fixed anything.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for your help Scott, and I would use one of the alternative firmwares, but it is just that because the router does not assign IP addresses to its clients, and I cannot actually access the routers' configuration page.

    Any suggestions?

First of all when working on the router use a hard cable rather than wireless
Its more predictable and less dangerous that way
    Reset the router again
Ensure that in the browser > tools > internet options > connections that the proxy settings are all unchecked
You may have to clear the cache
    Reboot
If you cannot get in try firefox
    Replace the ethernet cable
It can be difficult to get in the control panel
and then all of the sudden you are in

    There are helpful guides here:

    http://portforward.com/

Go into the control panel and check that the dhcp is turned on
That is what hands out the ips

    Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_Host_Configuration_Protocol

    http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/D/DHCP.html

If you cannot turn that on - try resetting within the admin panel admin area.
    - one next trick that i learnt from a Linksys tech is to pull out the power cord as you are resetting ( guess it gives it a big jolt)

    - if not try to redo the bios ( flash the bios)
instructions and the file are on the linksys support area

One note -- how old is the router

    - if it an older one good
    - if it is within the last 2 years these are newer , cheapened versions of the classic product
version 5 and above were the change

    http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/21473-41-linksys-wrt54g-lousy-router

Yes, the Linksys WRT54G V5 Really Is a Lousy Router

The older better version of the WRT54G router is sold currently by Linksys as the Linksys WRT54GL

    ( L being for Linux)

    Hi,
I figured out why it wasn't working. It's kind of silly actually, but I'm surprised no one picked it up. It was my firewall which was blocking the network.

Anyway, thanks for all yout help.

Hmm that's a new one. What kind of firewall would lock it down that tight?

Current stable version of Comodo will, until you create rules in network monitor. I hear in current beta, this rule is provided in the install/setup configuration.

    EDIT - update
If I remember correctly, IP's were assigned (managed by router), but Comodo blocked accesses.
It's been awhile since I up Comodo, but rules had to be created at a network allowance.
