I purchased a linksys wrt54gs router with speedboost for my friend and would like to setup the router in my home before installing it in my friends house just to make sure it works properly. I'd like to note, my router which is a wrt54g with no speedboost works fine.

I connected the router to my system, configured the router and can't connect to the internet. Under the status tab I notice I have no domain name, ip address, subnet mask, gateway or dns infomation. This data is present on my router.

The only thing I didn't do is run the CD that came with the new router. Could this be the issue? Am I'm wrong in assuming the CD which I ran with my router is the same as the router with speedboost?

You don't need the Linksys CD.
Your problem is that you modem is associated with the MAC address of your router. When changing routers you MUST do this in sequence:

    1. unplug modem
    2. connect router to modem
    3. plug in modem & let sync
    4. plugin router & let sync with modem

When you changed routers, your modem "thought" it was still connected to your router.

Yes sir, after posting I remembered companies such as Comcast only assign one IP address. I pressed the reset button on the cable modem and the new router is golden. Naturally, when I reinstalled my router it didn't work, so I followed your steps and it to is golden.

Thank you kindly for your prompt and professional assistance.
