Hi All, ............. When I try to open a link from anywhere (all previous dates) in Thunderbird, 17.06, nothing happens. This condition does not appear in Firefox. Within the past two days I moved TB to Dropbox and things seemed to work normally there and at the TB site. Today I have the title situation. I have removed TB from Dropbox but the problem condition persists. Any suggestions?

    derfsch ...

I had the same problem once upon a time, and this worked for me ...
    1. If FF won't open from links in TB messages, check the Registry at
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\http\shell\open\command
If there is no DEFAULT string, create one: <path to>\firefox.exe -url "%1 "

    2. If FF thinks it's the default browser, but still won't open from TB links,
Start > Run type: <path to>\firefox.exe -silent -nosplash -setDefaultBrowser
    3. If the FF Profile Manager opens, delete the applicable profile and create a new one using the same profile folder.
In both #1 and #2, <path to> is the full path to firefox.exe (the full path may not be required in #2; it is on my system, as my firefox.exe is not in the default location).

Rather than having to laboriously type out any full path, if you're using a 32-bit OS I suggest installing a handy little freebie called PathCopyEx. It will place a selection, "Copy Path to Clipboard ", on context menus, so that whenever you right-click on any file or folder and select it, the full path will be copied. Then, all you have to do is paste it wherever you need it.

If you're using a 64-bit OS, try Path Copy Copy, instead (it also works with 32-bit systems, but for those I like PathCopyEx better).

retiredlearner and JSS3rd , Excuse the delay in my response, but my mail program had more problems than was given in my first post. After I started using the suggestions you provided I realized that there were parts missing (Local Folders, Address Book and Contacts, e.g.) from TB. It appears that the basic problem was caused by a mix up in the Mail folder where there were three versions of the server settings. I tried restoring the missing parts piecemeal but that didn't work too well and I finally gave up and restored TB from an old backup. This cost the loss of some mail but the program appears to be performing normally.

Thank you for taking your time and offering to help. I made copies of your responses in case I should get into a similar situation in the future.

You're Welcome. Have you thought of using Revo Un-installer to remove the bits and pieces of TB you don't want? Neil.
