Using newly installed maxthon 2.5.1 and Thunderbird 2.0.0.21 as my default browser and email client. Just uninstalled previous version of M2 because of loss of functionality of MSC and plugins. Also latest driver for my Logitech cordless optical trackman.

Links within valid emails no long automatically open in Maxthon. In fact, selecting them and the right clicking to copy, doesn't bringup the context menu. I can select and then copy the links using the trackman's custom button for copying; and then I can paste into Maxthon's address field (field is configured to also as as a google searcher). This works. As far as I can tell, all settings and defaults are correct.

Problem is why I can no longer get automaic opening of links into their specific web pages.

You're speaking Greek to me about Max whatever. However try this.

Start>Settings>Add or remove programs and select Set Program defaults. Drop down Custom and select Max as your browser and Thunderbird as email client. Try that...I'm assuming yu are using WinXP.

Thunderbird probably does not recognize Maxthon as a browser because it's not really it's own browser. It's built on IE, but TB may not know what Maxthon is.

Open TB > Tools Menu > Options > Advanced tab > General > Config Editor button > locate network.protocol-handler.app.http > set path to your browser (example c:\program files\browser\browser.exe)

Thanks for your responses. But, communication defaults between M2 and Thunderbird was always set right and fully functional, util the noted problem arose. I've got 3 vista accounts and this problem only happens in #1. I believe that there are several corruption working within that account and I'm looking to move stuff to an account (#3) that appears to be working properly. My problem is that I don't know how to transfer stuff from one account to the other. So, as you guys are more familiar with TB than with M2, let me further ask:

I have TB set up in #1 and #3, as I also have with M2. Things not working well in #1 and want to use #3. TB is set up in #3, but I don't know how to move TB's critical flies/folders over to #3. I think I've seen somewheres that the easiest way to do this is to put stuff in a public or shared folder in #1 and the it will also transfer for use into #3??? Obviously, I don't know how to work with accounts and especially in Vista HP 64-bit. Could use some help here.

Have you checked the Config script to see if the correct browser is there?

Opps, correct, it's not used in Windows versions of TB.
Verify that Maxthon is set as the default browser:
Tools > Maxthon Setup Center > General > Set as Default Browser
And go to Control Panel > Internet Options > Programs tab and verify no check next to "IE should check if it's the default browser ".

TT, all your good suggestions have been checked and rechecked many times. All parameters are as they should be in order for email links to be directed towards opening in M2. Once again, something must be corrupted within account #1, or within the M2 that resides within #1. So, as stated above, as all things work well in #3, I just have to be able to switch Thunderbird email stuff (mailboxes and address book) and M2 favorites over to #3...but I don't know how to do this.

You should be able to logon as an admin and copy the profile over. Or get rid of the existing profile and create a new one.

Appreciate the help, Tony, but I'm at a loss on how to do what you suggest. How does one copy the profile from #1 to #3. I already have TB up and running in #3 (dl'd and installed a fresh TB), but don't have the mailboxes or addressbook in #3. Also, how does one log onto #3 as an administrator?

    flycaster,

To transfer messages from #1 to #3:

    Close Thunderbird/M2
Open your #1 Mail Account folder: pop.yourispname.net

    Rename these files in #1:
Inbox (without the MSF extension) OLDInbox
Drafts (without the MSF extension) OLDDrafts
Templates (without the MSF extension) OLDTemplates
Sent (without the MSF extension) OLDSent
Junk (without the MSF extension) OLDJunk

Also rename any SBD folders to coincide with files of the same name, e.g.:
    Inbox.sbd to OLDInbox.sbd, etc.

Don't copy any files with an MSF extension

Then copy renamed files to #3

Also copy these files from #1 to #3:
    msgFilterRules.dat
    popstate.dat
    abook.mab

I believe I've covered everything, if not let me know.

Thanks, Ramona, for your instructions; but before I try I have to feel sercure I won't mess up, so a few more defining questions.

When You say "copy renemed files to #3," should I copy the files that are named OLD..., or the original file before renaming?

Also, when copying from #1 to #3, how is that done? Is it done while in #1? I don't see how I can copy while in #1 and then paste in while in #3. Yes, I am quite confused on transferring files...

    Make a folder on C: called "thunderbird-backup ".
In that folder make a folder called "profiles ".
In that folder make a folder for each user, 3 folders in all.

    C:\thunderbird-backup\profiles\username1\profile files go here
    C:\thunderbird-backup\profiles\username2\profile files go here
    C:\thunderbird-backup\profiles\username3\profile files go here

Each user will have their own folder in C;\Documents & Settings\Username

Copy their Thunderbird profiles to the respective folder you just created.
