    After installing FF3, links in Thunderbird do not execute Firefox properly. FF3 is my default browser and it is set to check each time firefox is executed. In my task manager I can see firefox is running, but it does not show on the screen. If I end the process, execute FF3 manually, then click on the link in Thunderbird, it works great. Any suggestions??

    Welcome to the Forum, davepcollins!

    Dave,

    Manually set these preferences in the prefs.js file:

    user_pref( "network.protocol-handler.app.ftp ", "firefox ");
    user_pref( "network.protocol-handler.app.http ", "firefox ");
    user_pref( "network.protocol-handler.app.https ", "firefox ");

    or in about:config:

    network.protocol-handler.app.ftp. . . . . string. . . . firefox
    network.protocol-handler.app.http. . . . string. . . . firefox
    network.protocol-handler.app.https. . . string. . . firefox

    It shouldn't be necessary to have Firefox check to see if it is the default browser on every startup.

    Thanks for your quick response. I manually set the preferences in the prefs.js file, however, am still encountering the same problem. When clicking on the link in Thunderbird, firefox.exe shows up in task manager, the browser does not show on the screen.

    Any suggestions?? Thanks a bunch!!

    Dave,

    If Firefox already thinks that it is default, exit Firefox completely, go to "Start Menu -> Run" and enter this into the text box:

    firefox.exe -silent -setDefaultBrowser

    If still no joy,try the suggestions here:
    Setting Firefox as the default browser doesn't work

    Thanks for your help. However, I am still having the same difficulty. When clicking on a link in Thunderbird, Firefox.exe shows in task manager, however, it does not load on the screen. When I made IE7 the default browser, the link from Thunderbird worked. When I switched back to FF3, it failed to operate.

    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Dave,

    If links in TB open Firefox, when you make IE the default browser, then leave IE as the default. It won't do any harm, and it is sometimes necessary to do so. However, when you switch back to TB, links usually start working. You might do more switching back and forth and see if it will finally "take" in TB.
