    Hi,
I am using onboard LAN connection (Realtek Gigabit ethernet) and have installed WinXP SP3 .My modem works fine with a LAN connection from my other PC. I am unable to fix the problem. I have tried the following operations:
    1. checked the connection of my port with modem -- this is fine
    2. tried to do ipconfig /release all and ipconfig /renew all -- This does not work
the connection hangs. It says something like unable to reach DHCP server.
    3. used winsock utility -- This does not work the problem still exists
    4. tried command netsh int ip reset and netsh winsock reset -- Both of these does not work.

When I see ip address thats assigned it is -- 169.something and my ip settings they are set to "obtain IP address automatically "

I am unable to figure out the problem. Please help.

    thanks in advance

First thing to try is to set the IP address manually. Reconnect one of the PCs that work and get its IP address via ipconfig. Then enter the same settings for the PC you are having problems with one alteration. Set the last octet of the IP address to 201. So if the IP address of the working machine is 192.168.0.1, set the problem PC to 192.168.0.201.
