A friend of mine has a MSI U120 netbook with the above WLAN card. Yesterday we took our netbooks (mine is a U123) to the library to do the December Windows updates on their wireless network. We both have very slow dialup at home. He has XP Home SP3 on his while I have XP Pro SP3 on mine. We have done this a number of times without difficulty.

His received the "Limited or no connectivity" message while mine came up without any problem. We have the same card and the driver is exactly the same too. It is the latest available from MSI: v7.7.0.348 dated 6-22-09.

Last evening I opened up his and reseated the card and the antenna connections.

Right now I am back at the library but again his still receives the above message while mine is up just fine.

I have search the web but none of the "solutions" so far have helped. I have executed the windows repair procedure a number of times but that always ends with a message to the effect that the assigning of the IP address does not complete.

I am far from an expert on wifi so I am here with "my hat in my hand" looking for help.

    Access Network adapter properties:
rt click my network places icon > select Properties > rt click wifi adapter > select properties > double click TCP/Ip Internet protocol > advanced button > wins tab > uncheck use lm hosts > select use netbios over tcp/ip > OK out of windows.

    Tony,

Thank you for the quick reply. I made the changes to the U120/XP Home system now I'll head to the library to test the results. I'll let you know.

I checked the values in my U123 XP Pro and they were the same as the U120. I am a loss as to why one (my U123) works with what I assume must be the default values of "Enable LMHOSTS lookup" checked and the default value under "NetBIOS setting" and the U120 does not. But I will give the changes a try.

We are using the "clasic" view on both systems so it took me some thought to get to the correct place as I could not not find "My Network Places ".
