    Just purchased Microsoft LifeCam VX 500. Upon opening the box, there was no driver disc. I do have a manual with the camera, but the writing is so small, I was not able to read it, even with glasses on. I tried looking for drivers and instructions on how to install on Yahoo. The Microsoft site notes the LifeCam's features, but no instructions.

    There seems to be a lot of pages on the VX 5000, but not 500.

    I'm using the LifeCam through USB port, on a Windows XP machine, with 2 Gig Ram, and the machine has a speed of 3.4 gig processor.

    Could someone please guide me to a driver to down load, as the plug and play is not working.

    Thanks

    1. Installed the software
    2. tried various USB ports
    3. Uninstalled and re installed the software
    4. Tried different USB ports again.

    Kept on getting the following.

    There is no camera connected to this computer.

    Looks like I'll be taking this back and getting a refund :(

    looks like there is a problem, are your USB ports working OK with USB sticks or other USB items (external drive or so).
    Try if you can try it out on another PC to see if you get the same results there, if yes then yes I would take it back.
    I use the MS VX3000, it is just OK but that is all I can say about it I can not rave about it. I also have a little $10- no brand web cam and that is just as good if not better.
    Next time I would go for Logitech.

    USBs work fine, as when I plug it in, I hear the "Caa choo" sound, so it is recognising it's pluggin in and out.

    Just went threw the softwares driver list, and it does not list the 500.

    Does anyone know if there is an actual driver for the 500?

    Most likely not, Microsoft's camara drivers are an "all-in-one" package AFAIK.

    From the MS webpage:

    "Both the LifeCam VX-500 and the LifeChat LX-2000 can be easily used with major instant messaging programs, and the setup is quicker than ever, with no software needed. "

    Keep in touch with family and friends with the Microsoft Lifecam VX-500 Wired Webcam. Ideal for PCs or laptops, this great webcam requires no software, so you simply plug and use. This high speed USB 2.0 device is simple enough for anybody to use and made by Microsoft, it is sure to last you for many years to come.

    FEATURES:

    * Microsoft Lifecam VX-500 Wired Webcam.
    * Plug & Play.
    * No software required.
    * Works with Windows Live, AOL IM, Yahoo Messenger, Skype, Office Communicator.
    * High Speed USB 2.0.
    * Windows XP or Vista.

    I would still try it out on another computer.
