does any one do that? turn off your monitor but leaving cpu on? googled it and it doesnt seem to hurt anything. so ive been doing it. listening to audio books, well this morning i was woke by a noise that was not any audio book, more like a "wood pecker" and a very hyper one at that. i would call it an electronic woodpecker (i have heard the same noise on my scanner when i stop on a digital freq) never on the computer!!!!!
turned the monitor on and turned the speakers off. and found my mouse and keyboard froze. i had just changed batteries on both so i knew it wasnt that so i pushed the power button. turned everything off. waited 5 mins turned everything back on and found adobe wanted to install a new update so i let it. when i went to the event viewer and about a half dozen errors for msiInstaller 10005. i can maybe see errors because i wouldnt install the adobe update, but the noise? no i dont understan that at all. except that might be good reason just to turn off and unplug everything. tell you another thing that noise would make a very good alarm clock!
anyone got any ideas about the noise, or the frozen mouse and keyboard and i even did the ctrl, alt, delete and it just sat there doing nothing. seems to be okay knock on wood.but i would really like to know what on earth happened!!!!!! i dont like being woke up like that.

When the pc freezes in the middle of something, all sorts of things like the noise can happen.

So, was the noise coming from the speakers?

I would never leave the speakers on overnight for one simple reason: energy consumption. In fact, it's probably better to turn off your pc along with your monitor for that very reason. It certainly can't hurt.

The only thing I have been able to come up with is that an auto update brought your PC out of sleep which caused it to freeze and in turn created the noise. This event should have appeared in your event viewer.

All I can suggest to stop this problem is to disable internet access during the night.

    So, is everything OK now?

If yes please mark the thread as resolved from the 'Thread tools' tab just above the top right hand corner of the first post.

Cthelper is a non essential program that would only be used by developers. If it creates any further errors you can safely remove it.

could this be somekind of malware? i'll go run malwarebytes see if anything appears.
everything was shut down last night and unpluged,at least tower monitor printer were, speakers on different socket.

This microsoft article and automated fix may help although it doesn't relate directly with your problem.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307918

Another solution is to run the system restore back to a time before it gave you a rude awakening.

When you last changed the settings back from headphones to speakers did you get the sound back?

Do you have onboard sound or a sound card, what details are shown for sound in device manager. Try for an update to the sound drivers.

You could also uninstall the sound drivers, then reboot and windows should load generic drivers for the device.

ran the Fix it and it came back if no issues common to problem so no fixes were applied. same as always did.
unplugged speakers and removed from computer, and using headphone jack in front of tower i have sound. and should i change from speakers to headphones? last i looked it was on speakers(within 10 mins) how long is this going to last or will it quit too?

What happens if you plug the speakers into the front jack?

:confused:This says it doesn't work on speakers or headphones but then you say mini speakers and headphones do work:confused:

I am beginning to think that your big speakers have blown, do they work in any jack?

Is there an indicator on the speakers that show they are receiving power, is it lit up?
