If you boot into Safe Mode and don't get a good picture, that might confirm it is hardware (start tapping the F8 button at end of the first (Sony?) splash screen). BTW, is the splash screen milky?

The broken inverter may have caused damage in another part. Is there any chance that when you reassembled it, something was not connected correctly?

No, sorry. I've got a couple of 15" viao screens. My laptop is an older PCG FX 340 and I had to replace a DVD drive last year. I got so disgusted with the cost of a replacement that I bought a "non working" FX340 off of ebay and was going to use the optical drive from that. There wasn't much wrong with that machine that couldn't be fixed so I wound up still needing an optical drive for my original. One thing led to another and when the smoke finally cleared I had purchased five "non-working" machines for chump change. I got three very good ones out of the mix after doing some parts swapping. Yes, I've got a couple of screens but not a 14.1" screen.

You may want to follow a similar approach if you can afford to take a gamble.

If it is not milky at startup or in Safe Mode, that would strongly suggest to me that it is only a Windows driver problem.

I would start by finding the chipset drivers and installing those. If you have installed the chipset drivers from the drivers CD that came with the machine, look for any updates at the Sony website for your model. After that, look at installing and updating the graphics drivers.

I think is it possible that a part of the graphics may be "broken ", I highly suspect it is a driver problem though (I've considered that the graphics have been broken on machines in the past, sure as heck looked like it, always turned out to be drivers in the end though).

If you want to reinstall the graphics drivers and their software, uninstall them from Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs.
