I just upgraded to Win7 and my dad still has WinXP. I want to transfer some large files ( 1 gig+) to his computer over the internet. I currently use a free service to upload and retrieve from but I really want to connect to his computer remotely(which we do through win messenger(remote assistance) but the file transfer is S...l...o..w.....is there a better way?

    Thanks

Use an archiver to split the file into managable chunks eg 7-zip

There's not a lot you can do about the speed (it's probably upload from your connection rather than download from your fathers that's the bottleneck).

Best to split the file into 10MB chunks and upload to a filesharing website and tell your dad to download at his leisure.

The above assumes of course you can't physically connect the computers to a network and you are unable/unwilling to send DVD's through the post.
