I have two laptops, both running Win7 Home on a DLink router wired network that back up to a DLink NAS. I have mapped the drives on each unit and upon start up, the computers always connect to the NAS on their own.

The problem is, shortly after that point, both machines loose the connection and I either have to restart the NAS or use the DLink Easy Search Utility to connect again.

The laptops are set to never go to sleep and in fact, the screen saver feature is disabled on both.

Is there anything I can do to prevent the loss of the connection?

    Thanks

If you click on the mapped drive in Explorer - does the connection get re-established?

Can also look in Device manager-> Network adapter properties and make sure the sleep option is disabled.

Clicking on the drive in Explorer does not reconnect. Never thought of the adapter settings. I have disable turn off to save power so we shall see what happens.

    Thanks Steve

Also, always use a static IP address for NAS devices. You can change it via a Web browser. It currently has an IP address. Open a browser, type the IP address as the URL, login to the NAS and change its settings. You may be able to do it via the utility software, but in my experience, those utilities are limited and unnecessary, the Web interface gives access to all settings.
