    Hi,
I have an old MPC laptop that is running Windows XP. All is working well once I get the machine up and running but this is my problem.

When I shut down the computer and close the lid and later open the lid and press the power button, sometimes, the screen doesn't show the windows desktop until I slowly move the screen back and forth and then the desktop will pop up. The laptop is definitely booted up but the screen remains black until I play with the screen.

I did look in Device Manager and noticed that there is in Other Devices, a question mark in "video Controller (VGA Compatible).

I don't know if this has anything to do with the problem.

I am planning to send this laptop to my daughter for her small son and don't want her to have to deal with the problem.

Any help you can provide that will correct this situation will be most appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Jean

    Hi Jean,

Sounds like your invertor or backlight is failing (perhaps a loose connection somewhere)?

Not cheap to repair and unfortunatly there isn't a software solution. You could consider using an external monitor though.

Thanks for your help. I guess I'll just have to deal with the screen until it eventually doesn't stay on at all.
