Laptop Problems [NTOSKRNL.EXE is missing or corrupt]

Hello, I am having a problem with my Laptop, details below. I would appreciate any help.

inspriron 6400
T2300 @1.66GHz
1.66GHz, 1.99GB of RAM

Micorosoft Windows XP
Home edition Version 2002,
Service pk2.
About a month before the rest of the issues
First thing to go was the Battery-Microsoft ACPI\PNP0C0A\1 Battery Control method compliant.

I usally had the laptop powered through AC, so the battery did not get much use but I never took it out of the pc,
anyhow- Turned on the laptop one day & a Low battery warning appeared so I had a look in power options but the battery was not present.
Pluged out the AC power & the laptop shuts down straight away.


(Error message file missing or corrupt- NTOSKRNL.EXE is missing or corrupt.)

Second- Touchpad Synaptics PS/2 port poninting device - Not registering movement or if it did it would be really really slow, or shoot across the screen but mostly just stuck in the one place.

Third- Keyboard Microsoft Standard 101/102 Natural PS/2 keyboard- Again Not registering when you press the keys, you have to press really hard three or four times to get one character.

(When I plug-in a USB mouse & keyboard I have it works fine.)

Fourth- Network Card Broadcom 440x 10/100 integrated controller not registering any cable connection, device manager is saying all is fine & checked Computer Services but nothing I could see that was disabled.
tried reinstalling but the same story Error message file missing or corrupt-NTOSKRNL.EXE
