    Hi guys.

I've got a Samsung np550in laptop and I have removed it to clean the internal cooling fan and assembled it back. After that my laptop was not showing BIOS window and no screen output and only the power and cpu led's light up HDD light gets on for 2-3 seconds and goes off.

I have disassembled again and found that the fan is just spinning for a second and stops.

I have tried interchanging the RAM, removing and reinstalling the CMOS battery but nothing worked.

Whats strange is the BIOS menu shows up occasionally when I make a numerous attempt on the power button. and when the bios is passed it is showing (the Boot Configuration data is corrupted) error message.

And when I restart, again the black screen and no POST.

Please help me to resolve the issue.

    Regards,
    terminal16

Hi Terminal16, Welcome to WindowsBBS. :) The obvious answer to your question is, why did you take the laptop apart in the first place?
Was it performing OK before or was there a problem?
Have you dismantled your laptop before?
Have you got a service manual for your laptop?
My impression from your description is that you may have disturbed something when you dismantled the unit. Did you take the heatsink off CPU when cleaning?
If the heatsink was removed, you may need to renew the thermal paste/material as it sounds like the CPU may be overheating and shutting down.

    Hi retiredlearner,
Thank you for your quick reply, and sorry I didn't provide you sufficient information.

Laptop was working perfect before, but I felt the fan was not working and the system was overheating even in idle time. So I Have removed and Cleaned the dust from the fan.

This is the first time I dismantle my laptop.
And about the Heat sink, yes I have detached it from the CPU. And did not apply thermal paste before reinstalling it.My Bad :(

You need to re-do the thermal paste. The cpu can and will overheat and shut the machine down in seconds.

If you thought the fan may have dust you should've used a can of compressed air or DataVac Electric Duster. Never under any circumstances Disassemble a laptop without either first taking a course on how to perform the procedure and even after completing the course and never without the specific manufacturers Service Manual. Different manufacturers have different procedural steps geared to their different models and versions.

Hi Terminal16, Make sure you use/get the right Thermal interface material!!!
This is very important with laptops. A paste or liquid may be thinner than required to ensure a good conductivity and dissipation of heat. Some CPU's require a Thermal gasket, so be sure you use the correct material.
I see LJ has re-iterated the point about THE SERVICE MANUAL.
I used to be a Service Trainer in a previous life and always pressed the point about reading the manual before tearing something apart. Take care. Neil.

Hai every one, As u have advised, I have applied thermal paste on both GPU and CPU.

I took the help of a professional guy in applying the thermal paste instead of doing it myself.
But sad to say the condition is still the same.

This is what happened after the application of thermal paste.

I switch on the system , the fan just rotate for a second and stopped. only the power and cpu light remained.

Then I turn off and on again, the BIOS showed up prompted for the bios password. fans working, everything fine!.

Again turned off and on (without making any changes)but no BIOS, fan just spin and stopped and two lights!!

Did two or three repeats and nothing positive.

Did your OS open to Desktop or did you just switch off the power!
Please give more detail about how you turned off and on again. Neil.

No only till the BIOS. Then I turn off the power button which is on the laptop (not the PSU).

I cannot boot the OS as the boot configuration data is being corrupted.

Hi Terminal16, We encourage members to provide information about the device which is giving problems. Would you please take the time give us accurate details about your laptop. What you have provided so far does not show in a Google search. If this laptop is your main computer, please take the time to fill in your UserCP. In the FAQ section you will find the info necessary to carry out this request. Neil.

Please advise whether your laptop was running W8/8.1 when first purchased?
Have you upgraded to W10 and how was this done? Neil.

Laptop came with windows 7 Home premium, initially.

I have installed windows 10 later when it was released.
I have done an USB installation. and the OS is activated with a pirated key. anyhow it was showing the activate windows watermark on the desktop.

Did you make a backup of your system before upgrading as recommended by MS? Was your W7 OS up to date with all WU's? Was the W7 OS running trouble free before you upgraded? Neil.

NO I did not made a system backup before upgrading.
YES Windows 7 was up to date when I did the upgrade.
And the OS was running perfect without any trouble before upgrade.

Your options are down to 2 at this point in time. Re-install W7 by getting discs from Samsung or use MS MCT to d/l ISO or use your USB copy. Neil.

I mean OS was not activated with a Genuine windows 10 product key. I have used some windows activator software(don't exactly remember the name.)
