After buying a brand new Asus F80L-Santa Rosa version last Oct. 2008, I noticed that when Im going to use the battery, it freezes. This just happened last Wednesday. When at start up, the status bar freezes before going to the log in screen, when the AC adapter is plugged in and removed when the battery is on, it also freezes.

When I switched it on to safe mode, it's not freezing up anymore. Though I only did this for a couple of minutes before trning off the safe mode. but I am able to successfully logged in to safe mode while in battery mode. I re-installed the Power4Gear Extreme but it's not useful as it's my first guess of the problem.

What could be the possible cause of this?

I still have 2+1 Yearr warranty on the unit ad 1 year warranty on the battery. I'll be going to Asus Service Center (5 hours trip) this Tuesday.

When at home, I removed the battery so it will not be used while inserted in AC mode. I rarely use the battery when im outside. I think I only used the battery for 30 times now.

    Yours truly,
    Chris

Is the battery 100% Charged when trying to boot with it?

Of course, it's been 100% charge. tested it on safe mode. The battery is just 3 and a half months old (including the laptop). I'll see how long till it lasted in safe mode. is this a software or hardware issue? Any guess?

    Thank you for your time

Try doing a System Restore back to before "last Wednesday ".

Could it coincide with getting updates or maybe a Service Pack. Anyway, I would look for updated drivers at the Asus website and particularly any updates for the chipset.

If you are stuck, investigate a BIOS upgrade, if they offer a Windows based upgrade method as opposed to a boot-disk method, make sure Windows is stable before carrying it out.

i will do the updates as soon as possible.

On the other note, just noticed today that the battery is not charging when plugged in the unit and the AC adapter is on. This is really making me down on Asus. So this is what they meant by 1 year battery warranty and 2+1 years warranty on the laptop.

I'll still do the updates like you said

EDIT: No updates available. I got the latest chipset update in the CD. Cant install the Bios as it warns me not to install two files.

Now, I understand. It looks like I got the hardware defect of the connector of the battery from the laptop or the battery's connector is faulty. But I can access Safe Mode. I'll conduct more test later

just got back from Asus after a 6 hours trip from my house to their office. It turns out that the motherboard is dying after a use of 3 months and 15 days. what could have possibly gone wrong.

For those of you having similar problem, check your motherboard.

No fees has been collected for a motherboard replacement as it is still in warranty. I appreciate your time in answering my previous questions. I didn't expect it was the motherboard that was the cause. My laptop is an Asus F80L unit bought last Oct. 8, 2008 at a discounted price of $760 (Php38,000)

One reason I know that the motherboard died is of something from the bios that was crashed.

Also, at the time of being in panic, I can't seem to run MBAM properly and giving me the Blue Screen of Death. I hope it was fixed due to motherboard failure.
