Yesterday evening I started experiencing connection issues with my laptop's wireless connection to the internet, it had become very slow to connect to the router spending a lot of time at the identifying stage whereas previously the connection was instant.

Today it takes even longer to connect to the router; however, once connected I get no response from the internet when trying to load pages or when pinging them from the cmd. Eventually an error message appears saying that the browser could not connect to the internet even though the Network and Sharing Centre says that I am connected. All other computers and devices can connect just fine. I have tried searching for hours but I don't know what the problem is exactly and anything I have tried has not worked.

EDIT: At the moment it has gone back to having a yellow triangle over the connection bars and the Network and Sharing Centre says that I am connected to the router but there is a cross between the router and the internet.

I am using Windows 7 Professional 64-bit with BT Infinity.

Now I don't know that much in this area but so far I have:
    - Restored the system to the previous day
    - Disabled the firewall
    - Disabled the security key for the router
    - Tried using a wire connection
    - Reset the BT hub
    - Tried using "netsh int ip reset" and "netsh winsock reset" (I saw this suggested on other forums)
None of these made a difference.

When I tried to use "ipconfig/release" the next line says "Windows IP Configuration" and then nothing else happens.

This is what I get when pinging the router's IP:

Pinging 192.168.1.254 with 32 bytes of data:
    Reply from 192.168.1.254: bytes=32 time=3ms TTL=64
    Reply from 192.168.1.254: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=64

    Reply from 192.168.1.254: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=64

Does anyone have any ideas about what it is that is wrong and how I can fix it? If you need more information please say. Thanks a lot :)

Did you run Windows 7 Network Troubleshooting tool? Type Fix networking in your Search programs and files box on the Start menu, and click Find and fix networking and connection problems.

Thanks for the quick response. I just tried what you said and ran Find and fix networking and connection problems as admin but it could not detect anything that is wrong, these are the results:

    Internet Connections Publisher details:

    No issues detected

    Detection details:

    Collection information
    Computer Name: PC
    Windows Version: 6.1
    Architecture: amd64
    Time: 22 March 2013 16:26:24

    Publisher details:

    Windows Network Diagnostics
    Detects problems with network connectivity.
    Package Version: 1.0
    Publisher: Microsoft Windows
    Internet Connections
Connect to the Internet or to a particular website.
    Package Version: 1.0
    Publisher: Microsoft Corporation

EDIT: Something quite strange just happened, I checked the internet on my laptop and it worked fine I could download from Steam and browse websites; however, five minutes later the same problem was back again and I was getting no response from the internet. Have you heard of something like this before?

TBH This looks like a problem 'down BT's end' try ringing them or going on their website and error checking, or reporting a fault...

I have tried asking their customer support now and they say that it is the laptop (though I think they said this because they were unsure of what the problem is).

However, another laptop that my dad uses for work can connect to the internet through wifi so if it was down BT's end why is that one not working as well?

Ah, ok thanks for the quick response.

Do you keep your hub on constantly, if so try turning it off and then turning it back on again... (yeah I know haha! :p)

If no change try reseting your hub, reset button should be located on hub.

EDIT: Just realised that you have already tried resetting your hub, will post when I come up with an idea... Thinking...

Yeah, my hub is on constantly. I just tried resetting it about 5 minutes ago actually because I was getting the message "Sorry this is temporarily unavailable" when trying to pause live TV or access recorded TV. I am not sure if this is just a coincidence or if it is somehow related to my laptop problem.

Unfortunately it did not fix the connection issues with the laptop, but I can now pause live TV so it is not all bad news :p

    Thanks for responding quickly.

Thats fine, glad were both online!

Have you checked in Device Manager to see us any of you hardware componants that your laptop uses to access the internet have updates to their drivers? Or if there is a problem with one? Shown by a yellow triangle...

There was nothing notifying me to anything wrong with the drivers. I did update the Intel® Centrino® Ultimate-N 6300 driver, but there is still no difference :(

I'll try uninstalling and re-installing just in case that works.

It shows fine, you should be able to connect.

To check, I would connect with a wire & see if that works.

Thanks for the info, it didn't work wired either, but since the ipconfig is correct I tried running the file three posts from the bottom here and rebooted: http://www.sevenforums.com/network-s...et-access.html

My laptop can now connect to the internet just fine, thanks both of you :)

By the way am I meant to do something to show this thread is resolved?

    Your quite welcome :)

At the top right you will see 'thread tools' in the dropdown menu click the 'resolved' option.

    Glad everything worked out,
