I am working on a Toshiba laptop. When turning on it comes up to the bios admin password. I don't know what the bios admin password is. I am assuming the motherboard has gone bad. Does anyone have any other thoughts?

** We can't help you on an Open to the Public message board to bypass passwords. **

Did you ask the owner of the laptop what the password is?

No they don't know the password. I was not asking for password info. I just think it is odd that the system can not boot past bios. That is why I think it is because of a bad motherboard.

Almost ALL computers have the ability to add a BIOS password.

I've never seen or heard of a mobo going bad and all of a sudden - asking for a password...It pretty much requires human intervention;)

It is strange. The system will boot with Toshiba screen then the bios password pops up. And will go no further.

As Steve has already mentioned, from the Posting Rules...

Talk to the owners or contact Toshiba for assistance.

I am not asking to circumventing password, I just wanted to know if anyone would now why the system will not boot past this point. I will stop posting anymore questions in this post.

Ok, I think I get it...

Some systems have a user password and an Admin password. To enter BIOS setup you need the Admin Password. This is only supposition from here on in so bear with me.

If you've changed memory (other internal peripherals) or your CMOS battery is failing then the laptop may be forcing you to BIOS setup (requiring the Admin password).

It doesn't help as already posted, but may provide an explanation as to why. I'd say Toshiba is your best bet.

There is a lot of free information across the Net that you can use to reset bios passwords
Yes Toshiba should be the first point of contact. As I always state contact the manufacturer. But otherwise search Google for my name and "Toshiba BIOS Setup ", Google searches are the way to go if Toshiba cannot help or want to charge for help.
