    I just reformatted a Dell Dimension E510 desktop computer, and after installing the operating system the LAN icon is missing from the system tray. Now I cannot connect to my D-Link router. Can anyone please tell me how to get the icon back into the system tray? Thank you.

    Hi Markala. You need to install the drivers for your network card in order to connect to your router.

    Download the driver from here.

    Assuming you haven't done this yet you should also install the drivers for your sound card, graphics card, chipset drivers, etc.

    @yenggliff, Markala is using Windows XP as their OS.

    Evan, thank you very much. I went to the page and there is no doubt the driver is there, but I don't know what they call the LAN driver. Can you please tell me which one it is? Thank you.

    and after you nstalled all the drivers just right click My Network Places go to Properties and if you're using Lan connection just right click the Lan Area Connection go to Properties again and select the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) then click properties and Assign IP address then check the uncheck box (show icon in notification area when connected)..

    I have not installed the drivers because I went to the Dell website and found the drivers but none of them were identified as the LAN driver. But thank you for trying again.

    Here is a direct link, Intel (R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection.

    I assume you are using a wired connection to connect to your router correct?

    LAN = Local Area Network

    The Dell site will show it at Network > Intel - Driver.

    Enter your service tag. It should take you to the drivers that you need for your computer. Located on either the side or back of the computer.

    Sorry about that. Should have read completely. I was going by what the link showed. For the latestest updates enter you service tag. I work on alot of Dell Desktops and Notebooks and I always use the service tag so I can isolate the drivers. In this case clicking the arrow just below the OS and changing the All to Network.

    Thank you, I appreciate that. I assume you're talking about emailing you through the website because I do not have your regular email address. But I'll figure out how to do it from the website when the time comes. And I forgot to mark this thread as solved, this email reminded me to do so. Take good care of yourself.
