I just installed Win 7 to replace my XP-Pro. This machine shares input devices with another machine via a KVM switch. However, when I switch away and then back, Win 7 no longer recognizes the mouse. It is an IR mouse and when I switch back the light flashes but then stays out. The only way I know of to get it back is to reboot. Can someone help me fix this problem. TIA.

Did you look on the KVM makers web site to see if they had newer drivers?

Wonder if you have 2 mouse drivers installed and it looks/finds the hardwired one first and don't see it and doesn't go any further?

Thanks for the reply. How would I know? There is only one listed in device manager.

You'll need a KVM switch that supports either DDM or "true USB simulation ". If yours is a model pre-dating Windows 7 there's a good chance it doesn't. Check with the manufacturer.

Uh oh, that sounds ominous. It's a D-Link DKVM-2K. I'll have to look that up.

After doing a little research there seems to be some debate about this. One is that most KVM switches work with every OS except Win 7 and including previous Windows OSs, there must be a bug in Win 7. The second is more problematic. It seems there are a few expensive KVM switches around that say they support Win 7 but reviews general indicate they do not. While none seem to have my mouse problem, the others have display problems. My problem is multiplied by a mix of PS2 and USB devices. It is not clear if a simple adapter will be sufficient. It shouldn't be this hard and I think the problem lies with Microsoft introducing whatever causes this or at least not considering compatibility.
