My son wants to play one of his games on my computer, Athalon 850,700+ ram 32ATI graphics, dx 8.
It runs fine on his machine, AMD K6 2 450, 400 ram, integrated 8mb graphics (pc-chips mobo) dx 7
However after the install, it refuses to fully load and play
    Anyone got any ideas??????
He is driving me crazy !!!

    Thanks

Quickies off the top of my head and in passing to another forum.....

Do a cntrl/alt/del and endtask on all with exception of systray and explorer. Then try to run game.

Some of these games do not like ati tasks [just to name one] running in background.

Look for readme's on the game disk or on web at support site for T-shoot or hardware issues, hints, tips. Support site may even have a patch needed.
NOTE*I mention/stress patch cause some pre DX8 games do not work well with DX version 8.

What Operating system is being used on the system where the game will not work might give us more clues.

In some cases the OS has more to do with problems than the CPU and RAM.

Not all games will work with all OS. Some games that work fine on a Win98 system many not work with Win2K or XP. Or at least may require that a patch be applied.

    Both systems are running win98se
The game is from Focus Multimedia...so far have had no help from their support, other than that they publish on their website.

Min spec required for the game is :
    win 95/98/me
    cpu pentium133
    220mb hdd space
    32mb memory
    4mb dx6 compatible graphics
    2x cd rom
    any dx6 compatible sound

    still stumped

    installed it to a p3 933 32mb graphics 128mb ram win98se
(freshly built and installed) and it would not run correctly with dx 6
installed dx 7 and it ran fine...........

Games, DX and Video drivers have to be all compatable with one another to make things work.

When I went to DX8 I had to RE-INSTALL my Audio drivers to get some games to work PROPERY and not lock up .

I agree on this being real PAIN.

One thing that I just thought of is the fact that I had a couple af games that would not install and work. I was installing them to a 32bit formated drive.

Just for the giggles of it I created a small 16bit drive and AWAY WE WENT

The reason for this you may ask ?

I will answer " I have absolutely no idea "
