I have searched elsewhere but have had no luck in getting an answer to the following question.

I recently purchased a new HP Pavilion laptop and the keyboard has various accents and other characters picked out in blue. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to access them. Can someone help me out here?

Must say - have you read the manual??? :)

To use the blue function of a key use the Fn key + the key in question. The Fn key is most likely in blue too.

Thanks Pete. Good question. In fact there seems to be no manual for this computer or if there is I haven't seen one.

In this case the fn key is not picked out in blue or that might have given me a clue as to its use! Thanks for the tip. I'll try it and let you know.

No success there. I tried a combination of keystrokes - holding down the alt key, the MS symbol key, the control key - as well as using the key on its own. No combinations worked. Hmm.

The puzzle has now become an enigma. Hope it won't progress to being wrapped in a mystery.

My new Compaq laptop also came without any manual. All HP provided was some 2 pages "Quick start" booklet.
I'm sure, you can find the manual on line, like I did.

Good suggestion, Broni, but a lot harder to accomplish than one might think. I discovered there is a Users Guide built into this computer but it is totally useless. At least in answering this particular question.

I searched for user manuals and hit pay dirt! Unfortunately there are a gazillion different models of the HP Pavilion and I have no idea what mine is. I asked the guide to show me and the instructions it gave me were impossible to follow.

I even tried Microsoft Answers forum and when I tried to sign in it wouldn't take any entry data.

I am coming to the conclusion that it would be better for my mental health to check into the Psych Ward.

Your Pavilion model should be shown on a label on the back of your laptop.

Thank you, Broni. Apparently it is a 1030ca. I'll check for the manual on that. And thanks Mattman for a comprehensive link. I'll let you know what happens.

Thanks again, Broni, for the link. I had discovered a website entitled <9Manuals> among them was a User Manual for my model Pavilion. It cost $5.95 and totalled 192 pages! So I paid for a download and started printing (I must be mad!) but my printer - which is an HP Photosmart C4500 All-in-one - went on the fritz and now refuses to print the final ten pages. I've done all the usual things, short of hitting it with a hammer, and it won't speak to me.

Is this karma? Are my bad thoughts about HP coming back to haunt me? OK, OK I know that's not a computer problem so it doesn't belong here. Just venting, is all.

Thanks for your good wishes, Broni. I actually got the printer to work after going back to HP Help guide but some portions of the document are missing. It was printed from Acrobat so is it possible that the link would still be on there? If so how do I access it?

I'd like to download the whole thing again but am not prepared to pay for it a second time! The vendor has no contact information.

    Can anyone help?
